Taking care of your boxing gear is a must, and cleaning your equipment will allow you to protect it. Failing to do this will cause you to waste not just the money you spent on your gear, but countless hours of hard work as well. To prevent this from happening, you need to clean your boxing gear, and the following guide will help:

Hand Wraps

This item will protect your hands and wrists and will also absorb your sweat, but this can only happen if they are clean. If you allow your hand wraps to sit in your gym bag wet and unwashed, they will smell awful and will not be able to provide you with the protection you need. Damp hand wraps should not be a part of your training session, so take them out of your bag and hang them up as this will allow them to dry out. This will eliminate unpleasant odors and will prevent mold build-up and after every few sessions, throw them in the washing machine for a thorough clean.

Gloves

It is a must that you wipe down your boxing gloves after each workout, and a washcloth and some antiseptic spray will help with this task. Make sure you clean both the inside and outside of your gloves to prevent bacteria. Failure to do this will allow bacteria to accumulate, and this can lead to bad smells and mold build-up. Take your gloves out of your bag after your workout so that they can dry, and if you want to take it one step further, you can place dryer sheets inside each glove.

Headgear

Always wipe your headgear with antiseptic wipes and hang it up to air it out after every one of your training sessions. Do this with groin protectors as well.

Boxing Shoes

This item has to be treated differently than your other shoes because they are designed specifically for boxing, so do not wear this pair outside and use them only when you are in the gym or ring. Boxing sessions can be intense, so it’s natural for sweat to collect inside your shoes, and this is a good thing because it means your workout was successful. What’s important is that you air your shoes out afterward.

Mouthguard

Hygiene is extremely important, so you need to clean your mouthguard before and after every workout. Rinse with water beforehand and once your workout is complete, soak your mouthguard in a glass filled with water and mouthwash overnight. It is a must that you keep your mouthpiece in its case while in your bag for sanitary purposes.
